Despite its name, the Gulden Relays is not only a meet for men’s and women’s indoor track and field teams to get their relay teams ready for the rest of the season. While relay races are a big part of the meet teams compete all around and this year UMBC was successful all around while in Lewisburg Pa.

Sophomore Trae Proctor was just one of those non-relay runners that were successful in the meet, winning the 60-meter hurdles in an IC4A-qualifying time of 8.21. Meanwhile, freshman Mo Drammeh and senior Martin Nevarez also left the meet with gold medals. Drammeh won his second consecutive high jump to start his UMBC career, reaching a mark of 1.99 meters while Nevarez won the pole vault with a height of 4.65 meters.

But the men’s relay teams held up their end. The distance medley relay team of Roy Jones, Patrick Hairfield, Andrew Smith, and Jake Albino won their event in 10:37.37 while the shuttle hurdles relay team of Keith Brown, Keith Onto, John Rybak, and Proctor took gold in 32.73.

Arjun Pradeep, Tim Jones, and T.J. Cowing all left the meet with silver medals as well. Pradeep finished the 500-meter dash in 1:08.23, Jones finished the 1-mile run in 4:31.28, and Cowing finished the 3,000-meter run in 8:49.89.

The women’s team walked away with three gold medals as well. Sophomore Amanda Deller won the shot put with a mark of 14.06 meters while Chrissy Robinson finished second in the event with a mark of 12.64 meters. Deller also finished second in the weight throw with a distance of 15.98 meters.

Chowan Brightful won the high jump with a height of 1.60 meters, just ahead of freshman Tina DiPaola, who finished second with a mark of 1.55 meters.

UMBC dominated the 500-meter dash on the women’s side, finishing in the top four spots. Kirsten Jones won the event in 1:18.39 while Deborah Adeloloa, Cody Mezebish, and Lauren Leclercq finished just behind her.
