		<description><![CDATA[Win first championship since 2008]]></description>
			<content:encoded><![CDATA[<p>After a two year absence the women’s swimming and diving team reclaimed the America East championship, running away from the field to finish with 763 points.  Boston U was their closest competitive and finished with 610 points.</p>
<p>Abbey McKenney won her third individual gold medal after breaking her own championship, pool, and school record, which she set earlier in the day, with an NCAA consideration time of 49.66.</p>
<p>Erika Ronning finished the event in fourth place with a time of 51.50 while Ashley Miller finished in eighth place in 52.56.  Danielle Cruz finished second in the consolation finals, 10th overall, in 52.31.</p>
<p>In the final women’s event of the weekend Cruz, Ronning, Miller, and McKenney combined for a victory in the 400-yard freestyle relay with an NCAA consideration and school record time of 3:24.15.</p>
<p>Winning a silver medal in the 200-yard butterfly, Tara Morrissette touched the wall in 2:01.46 while Jennifer Kotonias earned a bronze medal in 2:01.52.  Sarah Ryan finished in seventh place in 2:04.14.  In the consolation finals Patty Hallberg finished with a time of 2:06.57 while Pink Kinanti finished in 2:08.59.</p>
<p>Amy Fay claimed a bronze medal in the 1,650-yard freestyle in 15:54.76, the second-fastest time in school history. Rebecca Godwin finished the race in fifth place in 17:02.22 while Kinanti and Ashley Sippel finished in 12th and 14th place with times of 17:32.18 and 17:36.51, respectfully.</p>
<p>Claire Barron finished in fourth place in the 200-yard breaststroke in 2:20.71 while Talor Tadena had the top time in the consolation final, finishing in 2:20.38 the fifth fastest time in school history.  Gaby Johnston finished 11th overall with a time of 2:23.44.</p>
<p>In the 200-yard backstroke Laura Tilman finished in sixth place with a time of 2:03.81 while Kathryn Moorby was second in the consolation finals with a time of 2:05.24 and Hallberg finished in 2:05.48, one spot behind Moorby.</p>
<p>UMBC won the event with 763 points, topping Boston U with 658 points, New Hampshire with 610 points, Vermont with 421, Binghamton with 406, Stony Brook with 300, and Maine with 237 points.</p>

		<description><![CDATA[The women's team will have eight swimmers in the finals tonight]]></description>
			<content:encoded><![CDATA[<p>Abbey McKenney set an America East Championships and pool record in the 100-yard freestyle prelims.  McKenney will have the top seed in the finals after she finished with an NCAA consideration time of 49.70.  She will be joined in the finals by Erika Ronning, who finished in 51.83, and Ashley Miller, who finished in 51.96.  Danielle Cruz will take part in the consolation finals after finishing with a time of 52.68. All times were ECAC-qualifying.</p>
<p>While she only took part of the heats as an exhibition, Erin Wohlers won the final race of her career, finishing the first heat with an ECAC-qualifying time of 54.22.</p>
<p>The women’s swimming and diving team finished third, fourth, and fifth in the 200-yard butterfly prelims.  Jennifer Kotonias finished with a time of 2:01.93, Tara Morrissette finished in 2:02.11, and Sarah Ryan finished in 2:03.46. All times were ECAC-qualifying.</p>
<p>Patty Hallberg and Pink Kinanti will take part in the consolation finals after finishing with ECAC-qualifying times of 2:05.26 and 2:05.93, respectfully.</p>
<p>Laura Tilman will be the team’s lone representative in the finals of the 200-yard backstroke as she finished in and ECAC-qualifying time of 2:04.20.  Hallberg and Kathryn Moorby will both take part in the consolation finals after finishing with ECAC-qualifying time of 2:07.53 and 2:07.49.</p>
<p>Klara Pavelkova and Elis Blaschke recorded ECAC-qualifying times in the 200-yard back exhibitions after finishing in 2:02.72 and 2:04.46, respectfully.  Sarah Delvaux finished the exhibition in 2:16.62.</p>
<p>Claire Barron will be the team’s lone representative in the 200-yard breaststroke finals after finishing in fifth in the preliminaries in 2:21.59 while Gaby Johnston and Talor Tadena will take part in the consolation finals after finishing in 2:23.66 and 2:24.00, respectfully.  Julie Cantwell took part in the event as an exhibition and finished with a time of 2:26.82.  All times were ECAC-qualifying.</p>

		<description><![CDATA[The women's swimming and diving team has moved into first place by nearly 100 points]]></description>
			<content:encoded><![CDATA[<p>Jennifer Kotonias set a UMBC record in the 400-yard individual medley with an NCAA consideration time of 4:18.20 in her first place finish.  Meanwhile, Tara Morrissette set the second fastest time in school history with a third place finish in 4:22.18 as the women’s swimming and diving team leads the field with 520 points, nearly 100 points ahead of second-place Boston University.</p>
<p>Rebecca Godwin finished in 7th place with a time of 3:27.25 in the event while Patty Hallberg finished in ninth place in 4:25.04, the top time in the consolation finals.</p>
<p>Abbey McKenney won the 200-yard freestyle in an NCAA consideration time of 1:48.98 while Amy Fay finished in fifth place with a time off 1:51.22 and Ashley Sippel finished in eighth place in 1:52.08.  In the consolation finals Danielle Cruz finished in 10th overall with a time of 1:50.85 while Erika Ronning finished in 1:51.96 and Ashley Miller finished in 1:52.81.</p>
<p>Senior Sarah Ryan finished in second place in the 100-yard backstroke with a time of 56.79 and also claimed a bronze medal in the 100-yard butterfly in 55.1.</p>
<p>Laura Tilman finished the 100-back in 57.98 while Kathryn Moorby finished in 58.45.  In the consolation finals of the 100-butterfly Johnston finished with the top time for a ninth place finished in 56.49.  Talor Tadena finished in 11th place with a time of 57.38, Pink Kinanti finished in 57.62 for a 12th place finished and moorby finished in 16th with a time of 58.26.</p>
<p>Tadena won a bronze in the 100-yard breaststroke with a time of 1:03.81, three sports ahead of Claire Barron, who finished in 1:05.13.  Johnston finished with the top time in the consolation finals for a ninth place finish in 1;05.60.</p>
<p>Tilman, Tadena, Ryan, and McKenney teamed up for a second place finished in the 400-yard medley relay with a time of 3:44.25.</p>
<p>All swimming times were ECAC-qualifying.</p>

		<description><![CDATA[Women's swimming and diving team dominates the 400-individual medley]]></description>
			<content:encoded><![CDATA[<p>Jennifer Kotonias broke the school record in the 400 individual medley with an NCAA consideration time of 4:18.36 just moments after Tara Morrissette set the school record in the prior heat with an ECAC-qualifying time of 4:22.98 during Saturday’s morning preliminary session.  Rebecca Godwin also finished the race in an ECAC-qualifying time of 4:26.88, the fourth fastest time in school history while Patty Hallberge finished in an ECAC-qualifying time of 4:28.57, the sixth fastest time in school history.</p>
<p>In the 100-yard backstroke prelim Elise Blachke finished in the second fastest time in school history with a time of 57.04 while Klara Pavelkova finished in 57.44, the fourth fastest time in school history.  Those two will be joined in the championship finals by Kathryn Moorby (57.53), Sarah Ryan (57.65), and Laura Tilman (58.07).  All five finished with ECAC-qualifying time.</p>
<p>The women’s swimming and diving team will feature three swimmers in the 200-free finals with Abbey McKenney (1:50.04), the top seed, Amy Fay (1:51.12), and Ashley Sippel (1:52.01).  Danielle Cruz (1:52.39), Erika Ronning (1:52.97), and Ashley Miller (1:53.39) will all compete in the consolation finals and all six finished with ECAC-qualifying times.  Though she did not qualify for either finals race, Erin Wohlers finished the preliminary race in an ECAC-consideration time of 1:58.48.</p>
<p>Talor Tadena and Claire Brown will represent the Retrievers in the 100-breaststroke finals after finishing with times of 1:04.95 and 1:05.22, respectfully.  Gaby Johnston will compete in the consolation finals after finishing in 1:05.37.  Julie Cantwell did not qualify for either finals race but finished in 1:08.63.  All four swimmers qualified for the ECAC championship meet.</p>
<p>Ryan will be the lone representative for the Retrievers in the 100 fly, as she finished her preliminary heat in and ECAC-qualifying time of 56.04.  Tadena (57.17), Johnston (57.54), Pink Kinanti (57.61) and Moorby (58.21) will all race in the consolation finals and all finished with ECAC-qualifying times.</p>

		<description><![CDATA[Abbey McKenney wins two of them]]></description>
			<content:encoded><![CDATA[<p>Abbey McKenney won two gold medals in the third session of the 2011 America East Swimming and Diving Championships taking place in Germantown Indoor Swim Center.</p>
<p>The UMBC women&#8217;s swimming and diving team currently stands in second place with 251 points behind Boston U, with 262 points.</p>
<p>McKenney anchored the 200-yard freestyle relay team including Danielle Cruz, Erika Ronning, and Ashley Miller, that won with a school and pool record time of 1:34.40 while also winning the 50-meter freestyle in 23.25.  Ronning and Miller finished in fourth and seventh, respectfully, in that event with times of 23.67 and 23.98, respectfully.</p>
<p>Amy Fay won the 500 free in and NCAA consideration time of 4:51.61, the third fastest time in school history.  Rebecca Godwin finished in fifth place in the event with a time of 4:56.29, the seventh fastest time in UMBC history.</p>
<p>Just hours after she set a school record in the preliminaries, Jennifer Kotonias set a new record in the 200 individual medley with a time of 2:02.87, good for second place, one spot ahead of Tara Morrissette, who finished in 2:04.30, the third fastest time in school history.</p>
<p>On the diving boards Amanda Shinholser finished in tenth in the 3-meter dive with a score of 206.45 while Victoria Monetta finished in 14th with a score of 187.35.</p>

			<content:encoded><![CDATA[<p>After the early session of the second day of the America East Championship meet the men&#8217;s swimming and diving team leads the conference with 114 points, 21 points ahead of Binghamton (93), while the women&#8217;s team is in second place with 66 points, trailing New Hampshire with 80 points.</p>
<p>Brad Reitz is doing what he has always done, shine even more than he did during the regular season.  Reitz led the 800-yard freestyle relay team to a victory with a leadoff time of 1:38.43, the second fastest time in school history, as Keilan Freeman, Pierre De Waal, and Eric Jones closed out the race for an NCAA consideration and pool record time of 6:34.28 and 40 points.  </p>
<p>Yesterday, during qualifiers, Reitz set a school record in the 200 individual medley with an NCAA consideration time of 1:48.35.</p>
<p>Reitz was also apart of the 200-yard Medley relay team with Sandy Haibel, Stephen Gallagher, and Freeman, that finished second in an NCAA consideration and UMBC record time of 1:29.87.</p>
<p>Sophomore diver Andrew Eckhoff earned a silver in the 1-meter dive with 560.20 points while Timothy Perkins and Enrique Labourdeth finished in seventh and eight, respectively, with 451.55 and 410.90 points, respectively.</p>
<p>On the women&#8217;s side Kennifer Kotonias set a school record in the 200 individual medley during the day one preliminaries with a time of 2:03.40.</p>
<p>Amy Fay, Danielle Cruz, Ashley Miller, and Abbey McKenney finished in second place in the 800-yard freestyle relay in an NCAA Consideration and UMBC record time of 7:21.69.  Fay&#8217;s leadoff time of 1:50.13 was the third fastest time in school history.</p>
<p>Kathryn Moorby, Talor Tadena, Sarah Ryan, and Miller finished in third place in the 200-yard Medley relay in an NCAA-qualifying and UMBC record time of 1:43.70.</p>
<p>The teams will continue day two tonight.</p>

		<description><![CDATA[16 career bests and four top ten times set at UMD]]></description>
			<content:encoded><![CDATA[<p>Chad Cradock showed his team’s depth at the Maryland Invitational, the final meet before the America East Championships.  Between the men’s and women’s swimming and diving teams there were 16 career-bests and four all-time top ten times set.</p>
<p>Freshman Patrick Husson showed he may be one of the next great swimmers for the men’s team by winning the 100-yard breaststroke in a time of 58.46 while finishing the prelim in 58.06, the 10th fastest time in UMBC history.  He then finished second in the 200-yard breaststroke in 2:03.27, which was the fifth fastest time in UMBC history.</p>
<p>Preston Donovan finished third in the 200 fly in 1:50.86, the eighth fastest time in school history and on the women’s side sophomore Katie Powlen finished second in the 1,650-yard freestyle in 17:01.20, the fifth fastest time in school history along with a career-best time of 1:56.98 in the 200 free while Anna Plunkett finished second in the 200 fly in a career-best 2:04.36 with another career-best time coming in the 100 fly, where she finished in 57.51.</p>
<p>The other career-best times all came on the men’s side.  Brian Keane finished with career-bests in the 50, 100, and 200 free, finishing in 22.18, 47.49, and 1:43.85, respectively.</p>
<p>Andrew Reid finished with a career-best time of 47.31 in the 100 free and set a career-best in the 200 free prelim with a time of 1:44.41.</p>
<p>Junior Evan Danz set career-bests in the 50 free with a time of 21.41 and the 100 free prelim with a time of 46.61.</p>
<p>Mitchell Donovan finished the 200 fly in 1:53.80 while Patrick Bryan finished the 500 free prelim in 4:43.83 and Kevin Stang finished the 200 free in 1:45.45, all career-best times.</p>

		<title>Women&#8217;s Sweep, Men Split William &amp; Mary and Delaware In Final Dual Meet</title>

		<description><![CDATA[The teams combined for 16 golds in the dual meet]]></description>
			<content:encoded><![CDATA[<p>In their final dual meet of the season the women’s swimming and diving team beat both Delaware, 175-124, and Williams &#038; Mary, 177-121.  Meanwhile, the men’s team split, beating Williams &#038; Mary 225-73 but falling to Delaware, 159-141.</p>
<p>Led by junior Abbey McKenney and sophomore Jennifer Kotonias the women’s team won seven events in Delaware.  McKenney won both the 50 and 100-yard freestyle raves in 24.09 and 51.49, respectively while Kotonias who the 200-yard butterfly in 2:04.89 and the 200-yard individual medley in 2:09.26.</p>
<p>Other victors on the women’s side include senior Sarah Ryan, who won the 100-yard butterfly in 58.12, freshman Talor Tadena, who won the 100-yard breaststroke in 1:06.98, and senior diver Amanda Shinholser, who won the 3-meter dive with a score of 228.40.  Shinholser also finished second in the 1-meter dive with a score of 204.80.</p>
<p>The men’s team was victorious in nine events in the meet.  Senior Eric Jones finished his dual meet season undefeated in the 200-yard freestyle as he won the event in 1:41.56.</p>
<p>Fellow senior Brad Reitz won both the 100 and 200-yard butterfly events in 50.49 and 1:51.21, respectively.</p>
<p>Sophomore Pierre De Waal, who transferred from Cleveland State, has proven to be a valuable addition to UMBC’s team this season, dominating the long distance freestyle races.  In the dual meet he won the 1,650 yard freestyle with a UMBC season-best time of 16:03.26, which was the 10th-fastest time in school history.  He also finished first in the 500-yard free in 4:37.67.</p>
<p>Freshman Johan Rohtla also looks to be a future star of the team and finished first in the 100-yard backstroke in 51.26 and 200-yard backstroke in 1:52.00.  </p>
<p>Sophomore diver Andrew Eckhoff has finally provided the team with a consistent diving presence, winning both events.  He won the 1-meter dive with a score of 296.15 and 3-meter dive with a score of 289.55.</p>

		<description><![CDATA[They take all but two events in a 161-117 victory]]></description>
			<content:encoded><![CDATA[<p>It was the last meet at UMBC Natatorium ever for eight members of the women’s swimming and diving team and they went out with a dominating 161-117 victory over Marist.</p>
<p>Sarah Ryan, Rebecca Godwin, Danielle Cruz, and Amanda Shinholser all won events while Julie Cantwell, Gaby Johnston, and Erin Wohlers were all honored before the meet started.</p>
<p>Ryan kicked off the meet as part of the winning 200-yard medley relay team that finished in 1:47.56.  Joining her on the relay team were Abby McKenney, Kathryn Moorby and Talor Tadena while Johnston, who also won the 200-yard breastroke in 2:29.95, was apart of the second place team that finished in 1:50.23 with Klata Pavelkova, Tara Morrissette, and Ashley Miller.</p>
<p>Ryan also left the pool with two individual wins as well, taking the 100 and 200-yard butterfly races in 58.66 and 2:08.48, respectively.</p>
<p>Cruz also teamed up with McKenney, Miller and Erika Ronning, for a victory in the 200-yard freestyle relay with a time of 1:37.61.</p>
<p>Wohlers was on the second place 200-yard relay team along with Amy Fay, Ashley Sippel, and Kali Dean that finished in 1:41.51.</p>
<p>Godwin and Shinholser won the 1,000-yard freestyle and 1-meter dive, respectively, in their final home meets.  Godwin finished her race in 10:27.51 while Shinholser won her event with 240.22 points.  She also finished in third in the 3-meter dive with 219.00 points.</p>
<p>The seniors weren’t the only ones to get wins as the team won all but two events.</p>
<p>Moorby won the 100-yard backstroke in 1:00.13, Tadena won the 100-yard backstroke in 1:07.78, Fay won the 500-yard backstroke in 5:12.73, Jennifer Kotonias won the 200-yard backstroke in 2:08.60, and Tara Morrissette won the 200-yard individual medley in 2:10.41.</p>
<p>Meanwhile, McKenney was also had two individual wins, taking the 50 and 100-yard freestyle raves in 24.12 and 51.98, respectively.</p>

		<title>Women&#8217;s Swimming And Diving Wins Patriots Invitational</title>

		<description><![CDATA[Morrissette won two individual events and set a record in another]]></description>
			<content:encoded><![CDATA[<p>With 977 points the women&#8217;s swimming and diving team beat eight other schools to the 2010 Patriot Invitational crown. </p>
<p>Through three days the women&#8217;s team won five events and set five records.</p>
<p>Tara Morrissette opened the weekend with a victory in the 200 individual medley with a time of 2:06.20.  Then on day two she broke her own school record in the 400 IM with a time of 4:25.05, which was good for a second place finish.  On day three of the meet Morrissette added a second gold to her list of accomplishments with a victory in the 200 fly with a time of 2:02.80.</p>
<p>The only other individual to win an event was Sarah Ryan, who broke a UMBC record in her first-place finish in the 100 fly in a time of 55.15.</p>
<p>Two relay teams claimed gold at the Patriot Invitational.  On day two the 800 free relay team of Ashley Miller, Amy Fay, Ashley Sippel, and Abbey McKenney claimed victory with a time of 7:32.97 while the 400 free relay team of Miller, Erika Ronning, Danielle Cruz, and McKenney set a UMBC and Patriot Invitational record with a time of 3:25.99 on the final day of events.</p>
<p>While the 200 medley relay team finished third, Kathryn Moorby, Talor Tadena, Ryan, and Miller teamed up to break a UMBC record with a time of 1:44.15.</p>
