		<description><![CDATA[Reitz wins fourth 200-free gold medal at championships]]></description>
			<content:encoded><![CDATA[<p>For the 14th straight year the men’s swimming and diving team won the America East championship as they out-lasted rival Boston U with 896.5 points.</p>
<p>On the final night of finals Brad Reitz became on the sixth male swimmer in conference history to win the same event four years in a row.  With an NCAA consideration time of 1:47.26, Reitz broke the pool and school record that he set early in the day as he won a gold medal in the 200-yard butterfly.</p>
<p>Joining Reitz on the medal stand was Sandy Haibel, who finished the face in 1:51.61 for a bronze medal. Ben Wolbert and Alex Moothart finished in seventh and eighth place with times of 1:53.37 and 1:59.03, respectfully.  Rico Bado finished with a time of 1:55.44 in the consolation finals for 14th place overall.</p>
<p>Freshman Johan Rohtla finished an astounding campaign with a first-place finish in the 200-yard backstroke after he broke his own school record set only hours before, by 1.5 second, finishing the race in 1:46.80.</p>
<p>Nour Saad and Mat Carson finished in sixth and eighth with times of 1:52.85 and 1:55.22, respectfully.</p>
<p>Long-distance swimmer Pierre De Waal, a transfer from Cleveland State, won the 1,650-yard freestyle with a time of 15:39.21, the fourth fastest time in school history.  Teammate Moothart finished in fourth place with a time of 15:57.94, the eighth fastest time in school history.  Carson finished the race in 16:06.95 and Mark Garbowski finished in 16:26.19, for sixth and ninth place, respectively.</p>
<p>Reed Neuendorf finished an exhibition portion of the race in 16:14.78.</p>
<p>Eric Jones capped off a brilliant career with a silver medal in the 100-yard freestyle with a time of 45.35.  Steve Gallagher finished in fourth place with a time of 45.53 while Keilan Freeman finished in 46.38 for seventh place.  Herol Marjak finished the consolation finals with a time of 46.70 for and 11th place finish.</p>
<p>UMBC also claimed silver in the 200-yard breaststroke as John Mendenhall finished the race in 2:02.02.  Phil Novotny and Dan Weston-Dawkes finished in fourth and fifth in times of 2:05.76 and 2:05.69, respectfully.</p>
<p>In the final event of the meet the 40-yard relay team of Gallagher, Freeman, De Waal, and Jones finished in third place with a time of 3:01.78.</p>
<p>Boston University came in second with 848 points, Binghamton finished with 690.5, Maine with 324 and Stony Brook finished with 323 points.</p>

			<content:encoded><![CDATA[<p>After a two year absence the women’s swimming and diving team reclaimed the America East championship, running away from the field to finish with 763 points.  Boston U was their closest competitive and finished with 610 points.</p>
<p>Abbey McKenney won her third individual gold medal after breaking her own championship, pool, and school record, which she set earlier in the day, with an NCAA consideration time of 49.66.</p>
<p>Erika Ronning finished the event in fourth place with a time of 51.50 while Ashley Miller finished in eighth place in 52.56.  Danielle Cruz finished second in the consolation finals, 10th overall, in 52.31.</p>
<p>In the final women’s event of the weekend Cruz, Ronning, Miller, and McKenney combined for a victory in the 400-yard freestyle relay with an NCAA consideration and school record time of 3:24.15.</p>
<p>Winning a silver medal in the 200-yard butterfly, Tara Morrissette touched the wall in 2:01.46 while Jennifer Kotonias earned a bronze medal in 2:01.52.  Sarah Ryan finished in seventh place in 2:04.14.  In the consolation finals Patty Hallberg finished with a time of 2:06.57 while Pink Kinanti finished in 2:08.59.</p>
<p>Amy Fay claimed a bronze medal in the 1,650-yard freestyle in 15:54.76, the second-fastest time in school history. Rebecca Godwin finished the race in fifth place in 17:02.22 while Kinanti and Ashley Sippel finished in 12th and 14th place with times of 17:32.18 and 17:36.51, respectfully.</p>
<p>Claire Barron finished in fourth place in the 200-yard breaststroke in 2:20.71 while Talor Tadena had the top time in the consolation final, finishing in 2:20.38 the fifth fastest time in school history.  Gaby Johnston finished 11th overall with a time of 2:23.44.</p>
<p>In the 200-yard backstroke Laura Tilman finished in sixth place with a time of 2:03.81 while Kathryn Moorby was second in the consolation finals with a time of 2:05.24 and Hallberg finished in 2:05.48, one spot behind Moorby.</p>
<p>UMBC won the event with 763 points, topping Boston U with 658 points, New Hampshire with 610 points, Vermont with 421, Binghamton with 406, Stony Brook with 300, and Maine with 237 points.</p>

		<description><![CDATA[UMBC will have four top seeds in the final night of finals]]></description>
			<content:encoded><![CDATA[<p>The men’s swimming and diving team will have four top seeds in the Sunday night finals.  </p>
<p>Brad Reitz set a school and pool record in the 200-yard butterfly, finishing with an NCAA consideration time of 1:47.33.  He will he joined in the finals by Sandy Haibel, who finished third in the prelims with a time of 1:50.54, Alex Moothart, who finished sixth in the prelims in 1:52.66, and Ben Wolbert, who finished eighth in the prelims in 1:53.79.  Rico Bado finished tenth with a time of 1:54.57 and will be the second seed in the consolation finals.  Mike McGee finished the event with a time of 1:55.79 in an exhibition.</p>
<p>Eric Jones finished with a top preliminary time in the 100-yard freestyle, finishing in 44.41, the second fastest time in school history, and will not be lonely in the finals as Steve Gallagher finished in 45.80 and Keilan Freeman finished in 46.14, making them the fourth and eighth seeds, respectfully.  Herol Marjak will be the second seed in the consolation finals after finishing in 46.88.  Evan Carey finished the race in 46.60 as an exhibition.</p>
<p>Johan Rohtla is the team’s final top seed the team has.  He finished the 200-yard backstroke with a UMBC record time of 1:48.30 and will be in the finals with Mat Carson, who finished in fifth with a time of 1:51.78, and Nour Saad, who finished in seventh in 1:52.71.</p>
<p>The Retrievers will have three swimmers in the 200-yard breaststroke finals, led by second-seed John Mendenhall, who finished in 2:04.04.  Dan Weston-Dawkes will be in the lane right next to him as the third see after finishing in 2:05.69.  Phil Novotny finished in fifth with a time of 2:07.32.  Kregg Deery finished the exhibition portion in 2:06.40.</p>
<p>All times were ECAC-qualitying.</p>

			<content:encoded><![CDATA[<p>Abbey McKenney set an America East Championships and pool record in the 100-yard freestyle prelims.  McKenney will have the top seed in the finals after she finished with an NCAA consideration time of 49.70.  She will be joined in the finals by Erika Ronning, who finished in 51.83, and Ashley Miller, who finished in 51.96.  Danielle Cruz will take part in the consolation finals after finishing with a time of 52.68. All times were ECAC-qualifying.</p>
<p>While she only took part of the heats as an exhibition, Erin Wohlers won the final race of her career, finishing the first heat with an ECAC-qualifying time of 54.22.</p>
<p>The women’s swimming and diving team finished third, fourth, and fifth in the 200-yard butterfly prelims.  Jennifer Kotonias finished with a time of 2:01.93, Tara Morrissette finished in 2:02.11, and Sarah Ryan finished in 2:03.46. All times were ECAC-qualifying.</p>
<p>Patty Hallberg and Pink Kinanti will take part in the consolation finals after finishing with ECAC-qualifying times of 2:05.26 and 2:05.93, respectfully.</p>
<p>Laura Tilman will be the team’s lone representative in the finals of the 200-yard backstroke as she finished in and ECAC-qualifying time of 2:04.20.  Hallberg and Kathryn Moorby will both take part in the consolation finals after finishing with ECAC-qualifying time of 2:07.53 and 2:07.49.</p>
<p>Klara Pavelkova and Elis Blaschke recorded ECAC-qualifying times in the 200-yard back exhibitions after finishing in 2:02.72 and 2:04.46, respectfully.  Sarah Delvaux finished the exhibition in 2:16.62.</p>
<p>Claire Barron will be the team’s lone representative in the 200-yard breaststroke finals after finishing in fifth in the preliminaries in 2:21.59 while Gaby Johnston and Talor Tadena will take part in the consolation finals after finishing in 2:23.66 and 2:24.00, respectfully.  Julie Cantwell took part in the event as an exhibition and finished with a time of 2:26.82.  All times were ECAC-qualifying.</p>

		<description><![CDATA[Chase 14th-straight conference championship]]></description>
			<content:encoded><![CDATA[<p>The men’s swimming and diving team, which is attempting to win their 14th straight America East championship, moved into first place after the third day of competition.  The team has totaled 606 points.  Rival Boston University is in second place with 580 points.</p>
<p>Senior Eric Jones completed a undefeated season in the 200-yard freestyle, winning the conference finals meet in an NCAA consideration time of 1:37.57.  Meanwhile, the Retrievers also had finishers place third, forth, and fifth in the event as Pierre De Waal finished in 1:39.28, Keilan Freeman finished in 1:40.90, and Mark Garbowski finished in 1:41.54.</p>
<p>Brad Reitz, another senior who has had a dominating career, earned a silver medal in the 100-yard butterfly with a time of 48.57.  Sandy Haibel finished the race in fifth place with a time of 49.93 while Ben Wolbert and Herol Marjak finished in the next two spots with times of 50.55 and 51.95, respectfully.</p>
<p>Sophomore diver Andrew Eckhoff capped off a solid season on the board with a second place finish in the 3-meter dive with a score of 591.20.  Enrique Labourdeth and Tim Perkins finished in sixth and seventh place, respectfully, with scored of 452.80 and 447.00, respectfully.</p>
<p>The 400-yard medley team of Johna Rohtla, Steve Gallagher, Reitz, and Jones finished in third place with a time of 3:19.94 while Gallagher and Rothla earned individual bronze medals in the 100-breast and 100-back, respectfully.  </p>
<p>Gallagher finished the 100-breast in 56.38 while John Mendenhall finished in with with a time of 57.38 and Phil Novotny finished in eighth in 58.26.</p>
<p>Rohtla finished his event with a time of 50.18 while Haibel finished right behind him in 50.26 and Wolbert finished in seventh with a time of 52.04.  Nour Saad finished with the top time of 52.43 in the consolation finals.</p>
<p>The lone event which UMBC did not win a medal in was the 400-yard individual medley.  Mat Carson was the top retriever in that event with a time of 4:01.92 while Dan Weston-Dawkes finished one spot behind him with a time of 4:03.64.  Rico Bado (4:05.70), Freeman (4:07.17), and Novotney (4:10.48) finished 11, 14, and 15 in the consolation finals.</p>
<p>All swimming times were at least ECAC-qualifying.</p>

			<content:encoded><![CDATA[<p>Jennifer Kotonias set a UMBC record in the 400-yard individual medley with an NCAA consideration time of 4:18.20 in her first place finish.  Meanwhile, Tara Morrissette set the second fastest time in school history with a third place finish in 4:22.18 as the women’s swimming and diving team leads the field with 520 points, nearly 100 points ahead of second-place Boston University.</p>
<p>Rebecca Godwin finished in 7th place with a time of 3:27.25 in the event while Patty Hallberg finished in ninth place in 4:25.04, the top time in the consolation finals.</p>
<p>Abbey McKenney won the 200-yard freestyle in an NCAA consideration time of 1:48.98 while Amy Fay finished in fifth place with a time off 1:51.22 and Ashley Sippel finished in eighth place in 1:52.08.  In the consolation finals Danielle Cruz finished in 10th overall with a time of 1:50.85 while Erika Ronning finished in 1:51.96 and Ashley Miller finished in 1:52.81.</p>
<p>Senior Sarah Ryan finished in second place in the 100-yard backstroke with a time of 56.79 and also claimed a bronze medal in the 100-yard butterfly in 55.1.</p>
<p>Laura Tilman finished the 100-back in 57.98 while Kathryn Moorby finished in 58.45.  In the consolation finals of the 100-butterfly Johnston finished with the top time for a ninth place finished in 56.49.  Talor Tadena finished in 11th place with a time of 57.38, Pink Kinanti finished in 57.62 for a 12th place finished and moorby finished in 16th with a time of 58.26.</p>
<p>Tadena won a bronze in the 100-yard breaststroke with a time of 1:03.81, three sports ahead of Claire Barron, who finished in 1:05.13.  Johnston finished with the top time in the consolation finals for a ninth place finish in 1;05.60.</p>
<p>Tilman, Tadena, Ryan, and McKenney teamed up for a second place finished in the 400-yard medley relay with a time of 3:44.25.</p>
<p>All swimming times were ECAC-qualifying.</p>

		<description><![CDATA[The men's swimming and diving team will have 14 swimmers racing in the finals tonight]]></description>
			<content:encoded><![CDATA[<p>Every member of the men’s swimming and diving team who swam in the Saturday morning preliminaries qualified for the ECAC postseason meet.</p>
<p>Steven Gallagher set the fifth fastest time in school history in the 100-breaststroke, finishing in 57.03 and will be the team’s lone representative in the finals.  John Mendenhall (57.48), Kregg Deery (57.97), and Phil Novotny (58.75) will all compete in the consolation finals.</p>
<p>UMBC will have five representatives in the 200-yard freestyle finals.  Eric Jones led the group with a time of 1:38.08 and will be joined by Pierre De Waal (1:40.08), Mark Garbowski (1:41.16), Evan Carey (1:41.95), and Keilan Freeman (1:43.09).</p>
<p>Sandy Haibel (50.51), Johan Rohtla (50.66), and Ben Wolbert (51.97) will all race in the 100-backstroke finals while Nour Saad, who finished in 51.18, will race in the consolation finals.</p>
<p>The men’s swimming and diving team will also have three representatives in the 100 butterfly.  Brad Reitz led the group with a time of 48.92 and will be joined by Haibel and Wolbert, who finished in 50.19 and 51.07.  Herol Marjak will be in the consolation finals with a time of 52.71.</p>
<p>Dan Weston-Dawkes led UMBC in the 400-individual medley preliminary heat with a time of 4:04.56 and will be joined in the finals by Mike McGee, who finished in 4:06.08.  Rico Baldo (4:07.63), Freeman (4:08.16), and Novotny (4:11.33) will tall race in the consolation finals.</p>

		<description><![CDATA[Women's swimming and diving team dominates the 400-individual medley]]></description>
			<content:encoded><![CDATA[<p>Jennifer Kotonias broke the school record in the 400 individual medley with an NCAA consideration time of 4:18.36 just moments after Tara Morrissette set the school record in the prior heat with an ECAC-qualifying time of 4:22.98 during Saturday’s morning preliminary session.  Rebecca Godwin also finished the race in an ECAC-qualifying time of 4:26.88, the fourth fastest time in school history while Patty Hallberge finished in an ECAC-qualifying time of 4:28.57, the sixth fastest time in school history.</p>
<p>In the 100-yard backstroke prelim Elise Blachke finished in the second fastest time in school history with a time of 57.04 while Klara Pavelkova finished in 57.44, the fourth fastest time in school history.  Those two will be joined in the championship finals by Kathryn Moorby (57.53), Sarah Ryan (57.65), and Laura Tilman (58.07).  All five finished with ECAC-qualifying time.</p>
<p>The women’s swimming and diving team will feature three swimmers in the 200-free finals with Abbey McKenney (1:50.04), the top seed, Amy Fay (1:51.12), and Ashley Sippel (1:52.01).  Danielle Cruz (1:52.39), Erika Ronning (1:52.97), and Ashley Miller (1:53.39) will all compete in the consolation finals and all six finished with ECAC-qualifying times.  Though she did not qualify for either finals race, Erin Wohlers finished the preliminary race in an ECAC-consideration time of 1:58.48.</p>
<p>Talor Tadena and Claire Brown will represent the Retrievers in the 100-breaststroke finals after finishing with times of 1:04.95 and 1:05.22, respectfully.  Gaby Johnston will compete in the consolation finals after finishing in 1:05.37.  Julie Cantwell did not qualify for either finals race but finished in 1:08.63.  All four swimmers qualified for the ECAC championship meet.</p>
<p>Ryan will be the lone representative for the Retrievers in the 100 fly, as she finished her preliminary heat in and ECAC-qualifying time of 56.04.  Tadena (57.17), Johnston (57.54), Pink Kinanti (57.61) and Moorby (58.21) will all race in the consolation finals and all finished with ECAC-qualifying times.</p>

		<description><![CDATA[Abbey McKenney wins two of them]]></description>
			<content:encoded><![CDATA[<p>Abbey McKenney won two gold medals in the third session of the 2011 America East Swimming and Diving Championships taking place in Germantown Indoor Swim Center.</p>
<p>The UMBC women&#8217;s swimming and diving team currently stands in second place with 251 points behind Boston U, with 262 points.</p>
<p>McKenney anchored the 200-yard freestyle relay team including Danielle Cruz, Erika Ronning, and Ashley Miller, that won with a school and pool record time of 1:34.40 while also winning the 50-meter freestyle in 23.25.  Ronning and Miller finished in fourth and seventh, respectfully, in that event with times of 23.67 and 23.98, respectfully.</p>
<p>Amy Fay won the 500 free in and NCAA consideration time of 4:51.61, the third fastest time in school history.  Rebecca Godwin finished in fifth place in the event with a time of 4:56.29, the seventh fastest time in UMBC history.</p>
<p>Just hours after she set a school record in the preliminaries, Jennifer Kotonias set a new record in the 200 individual medley with a time of 2:02.87, good for second place, one spot ahead of Tara Morrissette, who finished in 2:04.30, the third fastest time in school history.</p>
<p>On the diving boards Amanda Shinholser finished in tenth in the 3-meter dive with a score of 206.45 while Victoria Monetta finished in 14th with a score of 187.35.</p>

			<content:encoded><![CDATA[<p>Senior Brad Reitz won the 200 individual medley for the second time in his career while sophomore Pierre De Waal won the 500-yard freestyle as the men&#8217;s swimming and diving team has totaled 288 points through three sessions of the 2011 America East Swimming and Diving Championships, trailing rival Boston University, which has 304 points with four more events raced in.</p>
<p>Reitz finished the 200 individual medley finals in 1:48.54 while John Mendenhall finished in sixth place in 1:53.30 and Dan Weston-Dawkes finished right behind in in 1:53.58.</p>
<p>De Waal finished his event in 4:27.28, which was an NCAA consideration time and the third fastest in UMBC history.  Two spots behind him was senior Eric Jones with a time of 4:34.48 for third place while Mark Garbowski finished in fourth in 4:35.42.</p>
<p>Jones also finished in third place in the 50-yard freestyle in 20.54 while Steven Gallagher finished in fifth in the event in 20.72.</p>
<p>Jones and Gallagher were also apart of the 200-yard freestyle relay team with Sandy Haibel and Keilan Freeman, which finished in third with a time of 1:21.79.</p>
