Four Softball Players Receive All-Conference Honors

Four members of the softball team earned post season All-Conference honors, which is voted on by each coach in the America East Conference. The list was highlighted by Amanda Fefel who became just the tenth player in AEC history that has been named to the AEC all-conference team. She was joined by Emily Thompson, Lauren O’Malley, and Heather Brown on the post-season all-AEC teams.
After leading UMBC in mostly every offensive category Amanda Fefel was a unanimous first-team selectiion. This season she hit .331 and had 53 hits, 13 home runs, 35 RBIs, and 101 total-bases. She also added nine doubles, 33 runs, and slugged .631 while reaching bases .401 of the time.
But her talent showed in more places than just the batters box. Fefel was also the team’s top pitcher, going 4-5 with a 2.64 ERA with 70 strikeouts in 21 appearances.
Her four straight first-team selections matched Deanna Vecchio (1999-2002) as the only other softball player to do that.
Joining Fefel on the first team was Thompson, the senior outfielder for UMBC. In her final year, Thompson had her best, leading the team with a .333 batting average. She also slugged .558 with 52 hits, 7 doubles, 8 home runs, and 20 RBIs.
O’Malley earned second team honors as she batted .302 with 35 hits, 7 doubles, and 10 RBIs. Six of her RBIs came in conference play off doubles.
Fianlly, Heather Brown was named to the AEC all-freshman team. The pitcher added a third option on the mound this year. She went 9-7 on the mound with a 4.31 ERA and 40 in 99 innings of work. He first career hit was a home run as well.
