Baseball Gets Slammed In Double Header Against SBU

The baseball team may have never had as bad of a day as they did against Stony Brook University on the first day of their second series where they lost by a combined score of 43-6

Game 1: SBU 17, UMBC 0

It’s getting to be the same story over and over again. The team has flashes of good pitching on occasion and solid hitting on occasion but they can never get them together, but other times they get neither on the same page.

It does not matter how poor your pitching does, if you cannot even score a run against the opposing pitcher you’re guaranteed a loss.

SBU pitcher Nick Tropeano struck out 11 Retrievers and gave up just four hits in seven shutout innings. No Retriever would get multiple hits off of him.

Ed Bach sunk to 4-7 as a starter after giving up four runs (one earned thanks to three errors). The bullpen went through four other pitchers who lasted one inning each.

Game 2: SBU 26, UMBC 6

Brian Klukowicz hit two home runs and had three RBIs while Michael Pesci hit a two run home run. But neither players efforts were helped by the pitching.

Senior Kevin Clark fell to 0-6 on the season after giving up 13 runs in the second inning. That put the Retrievers in a very tough spot, which they could not come back from. eight pitchers made an appearance on the mounds as the team gave up 26 runs.
