Grimm Scores Three But Men’s Lax Falls To Albany In First Round Of AEC Tournament, 11-7

Rob Grimm recorded three goal in a losing effort against UAlbany in an 11-7 loss.

After getting a quick goal UAlbany scored four straight in less than two minutes and really set the pace for the game. After that the Retrievers just could not seem to keep with the Great Danes and scored just one goal during the middle quarters of the game. Rob Grimm led the team with three goals but the UAlbany defense just completely shut down the Retrievers by putting Mike Banks on Kyle Wimer and first team all-conference defender on Rob Grimm. Through Grimm scored three times the team’s two best passers could not get the ball around, especially inside to Latham.

The men’s lacrosse team has been eliminated from any chance at a post season appearance and fell to 4-9 on the season.

What was once a game of two of the top teams in the country has quickly fallen to be a battle between two four win teams fighting to get an automatic qualifier for the N.C.A.A. tournament, which would be the only way either team could get in.

In the Great Danes game against University of Vermont their top player, Brian Caufield, suffered a season ending jaw injury. After two losses, to UMBC and Stony Brook, following the injury, University at Albany switched everything and beat Binghamton University in the final game of the season.

UMBC on the other hand lost all momentum from their three game winning streak with a very flat effort against University of Hartford that ended their season and sent the seniors out with a loss.

While both teams have struggled scoring, and playing defense this season, they both have good players who can get hot at any time and lead their team to a win. The problem for both however has been getting everything together for the same 60 minutes.

Not only did the radio feed end after UMBC’s second goal, but now I have to listen to Petros Papadakis try to relive his USC days.
