Lorena Valente got one of UMBC’s two points against Binghamton.
After a 7-7 record just a season ago the women’s tennis team more than doubled their win total, finishing the season 15-8 in Paul Hubbard’s second season as coach. But after defeating University at Albany in the opening round game the Retrievers could not keep things going as they were bumped from the America East Conference Tournament by top-seeded Binghamton University, 4-2.
After Alice Chen and Heidi Danielsson won the teams first doubles match the second two matches went BU, giving them they doubles point.
UMBC finally got a match point when freshman Lorena Valente won her match (6-1, 6-3). Danielsson got UMBC the second match point when she got 6-3, 7-6(4), win at No. 5 singles.
