Women’s Tennis Bounces Back With 5-2 Win Over George Washington

After dropping two straight matches the women’s tennis team was able to bounce back in a big way as they returned home for a 5-2 victory over George Washington.
To kick off the match Alice Chen and Heidi Danielson fell in their doubles match to Michale Style and Mimi Hamling 8-1. That loss put UMBC behind right away as they has to sweep the rest for a match point from doubles competition.
But Emily Mannix and Carmen Jackman were able to beat Jacqueline Corba and Hilary Kustoff 8-3 to tie the doubles record up.
In a key third doubles match the Brazilian duo of Lorena Valente and Barbara Couto were able to help UMBC bounc back with a 8-5 victory over Jennifer Hirsh and Sasha Gluck for a match point.
In singles competition Alice Chen lost a close match, 6-7 (3), 7-5, 1-0 (9) and Emily Mannis lost a fourth position match, 6-2, 3-6, 6-2. But UMBC was able to win their four other singles matches.
Jackman defeated Hamling, 7-5, 6-4. Valente beat Dorota Lysienia, 6-0, 7-5, Danielson beat Meg Tyner in three sets, 6-2, 2-6, 7-6 (2), and Couto beat Zoe Krohn, 6-3, 6-1.
