Softball Splits With La Salle

With a short break to tune up more before they get back into conference play the softball tea has shown a lot of potential in pitching, but for the most part the bats have been cold. Their first game against La Salle was no different as they lost a pitching duel, but in game two the bats got hot and they out-slugged the Explorers fr the victory.

Game 1: La Salle 2, UMBC 0

Stephanie Weigman struck out nine batters and gave up just eight hits in seven innings, but it did not matter how good she was in the game because unless you score you cannot win, and the team just did not score. The team scattered just three hits in the game as they were shutout for the 2-0 loss.

Game 2: UMBC 8, La Salle 7

Amanda Fefel and Heather Brown each had shaky outings on the mound for UMBC but this time the offense was there to help out as they came back for the 8-7 victory.

After falling behind 4-0 Julia Culotta scored to finally get UMBC on the board in the game. La Salle got another urn before UMBC finally was able to score three runs in the fifth inning, two of which where matched by the exploers in the next innings.

But UMBC kept fighting as they scored another run in the sixth inning to cut the deficit to two.

Brown put away La Salle without a run in the final inning, and with one last shot to get something done UMBC scored three runs in a comeback victory, winning 8-7.

After Amanda Fefel doubled down the left field line Emily Thompson hit her seventh home run of the season to tie the game. The next batter, Malorie Weller, hit a double and got to third after a pass ball and on a very risky situation Coach Joe French had her steal home, getting UMBC the winning run.
