Women’s Swimming And Diving Finish In Second At AEC Championships

For the second straight year the women’s swimming and diving team finished in second place behind the champion Boston U Terriers. This year they finished with 681 points as Boston U finished with 765.

Abbey McKenney was apart of five medals for the team. She won a gold in the 100 free in an NCAA-provisional qualifying time of 50.17. She also won bronze in the 200 free in 1:50.42.

She set two school records in individual events as she finished in fourth place in the 50 free in 23:46, and finished her 100 free prelim in a record 50.62.

Adding to her medal count, she was apart of three relay teams that finished in the top three.

Along with Sam Maccherola, Ashley Miller, and Erin Wohlers, she finished seconds in the 200 free relay team in a school record 1:34.72. She also finished in third in the 200 medley relay with Katheryn Moorby, Tina Cantwell, and Jennifer Esposito in a school record 1:44.53. In the 800 free relay with Amy Fay, Lindsay Sherman, and Maccherola, she finished third in 7:25.49.

Maccherola earned a goal in the 200 free in an NCAA-provisional qualifying time of 1:48.63 and in second place in the 500 free in 4:54.66.

She also struck gold as a part of the 400 medley relay team with Moorby, Cantwell, and Sarah Ryan in a school record 3:48.17.

Esposito, who was apart of the 200 medley relay team, finished in second place in the 200 fly with a time of 2:02.32. In the prelims for that event she recorded an NCAA-provisional qualifying time of 2:00.39.

Cantwell found success in two relay teams, but also got a medal in two individual events, earning silver in the 200 breast in 2:17.09, and bronze in the 100 breast in 1:04.27.

Rebecca Godwin earned her only medal of the weekend with a third place finish in the 500 free in 4:56.44

Sherman, Tara Morrissette, and Ryan finished 3-4-5 in the 200 fly. Sherman earned bronze in 2:03.18 while Morrissette and Ryan finished in 2:03.61 and 2:05.05, respectively.

Morrissette earned a bronze in the 200 IM in 2:05.75 and 400 IM in 4:25.20. She was later named the most outstanding rookie of the meet.

Ryan earned her second medal with a third place finish in the 100 fly in 55.67, just one one-hundredth of a second over the school record.

Moorby got her third medal in the 100 back, earning bronze in 57.42.

Rebecca Godwin claimed bronze in the 1 mile in 16:53.03, Laura Tilman finished third in the 200 back in 2:03.37, and Tereza Kaplanova finished third in the 200 breast in 2:18.74.
