Women’s Basketball Drops Season Finale To Stony Brook, 59-48

Erin Brown had 11 points and 10 rebounds in her start against Stony Brook, but UMBC shot poorly from the field in the second half and fell to the sixth seed in the America East tournament.

Oddly enough UMBC may be in the better situation after losing the game and falling to sixth place. If they would have won they would be the fourth seed and taking on Binghamton in the first round. They simply do not match up well against the Bearcats, and that was apparent by the two losses by an average of 25.5 points.

But with the loss the women’s basketball team fell to sixth place and will play Boston U in the opening round. While Boston U is talented, UMBC still managed to beat them twice, including a 23-point second half comeback on Wednesday.

In the game against Stony Brook the Retrievers led the entire first half, but a 16-2 run to start the second half was the end for UMBC. UMBC managed just 23 second half points and shot just 33.3% from the floor, and an abysmal 9.1% from three point range.

Katie Brooks missed the game with an injury and in her place started Erin Brown, who broke out of her slump with 11 points and 10 rebounds for her first double-double of the season. Michelle Kurowski led the team with 14 points and had seven rebounds.
